Thoughts

I shall always remember Bob for his kindness, professionalism, great sense of humour and tremendous enthusiasm for whatever he was doing. A case in point was the great programme about Ironbridge and all the programmes he did with Bob Symes. I picture him sitting in the Guild News / Red brick office, poring over an article and twisting the front of his hair round his finger as he concentrated on getting everything right. I also remember him at the Cafe Royal when we won the Student Newspaper of the Year award and were being hosted by Hugh Cudlipp, Marjorie Proops and other Daily Mirror journalists. Amazingly we were more sober than they were. We were all offered jobs but I am sure Hugh Cudlipp would not have remembered that in the morning. Most of all I remember his unfailing love for Val and the children and the lovely atmosphere in tbeir homes in Cookham. We always felt welcome and had to tear ourselves away at the end of a visit. Bob and Val will never be forgotten as two of the nicest, kindest people it has been our pleasure to call friends. With love from Celia, Glyn and Jonathan Allen.
